The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast a heavy rains and thunderstorms to hit most part of the country from Wednesday to Friday. NiMet’s weather outlook made this known yesterday in Abuja saying especially in the northern states like Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna during the morning hours from Wednesday will experience thunderstorm.
President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent assistance to flood victims in Maiduguri, following severe flooding that has ravaged parts of the city and surrounding areas.
Thousands of residents have fled their homes following a devastating flood in parts of Maiduguri, Borno state. The flood led to the collapse of water channels at the Alau Dam on Tuesday.

The Federal Government through the Minister of State of Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako has alerted over 94 towns of risk of a five-day flooding beginning Tuesday, July 16, and ending on July 20, 2024. Salako said the identified locations and their environs would likely witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flood within the prediction period. He listed the concerned states as Adamawa State (Gbajili, Ganye); Abia State (Eziama, Arochukwu); Anambra State (Onitsha); Akwa Ibom (Uyo, Upenekang, Oron, Edor, Eket, Obianga, Etinan); Bauchi State (Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi); Bayelsa State (Letugbene); Borno State (Maiduguri); Cross River State (Ikom, Calabar, Itigidi, Akpap); Nasarawa State (Udeni, Tunga); and the Federal Capital Territory (Abaji, Bwari).

It envisaged thunderstorms over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, and Taraba states later in the day.
