In advance of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress announced on Friday that Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, and Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, the speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, had won the party's governorship primaries in their respective states.
After compiling the results from the 17 local government areas in Plateau State, Fidelis Mnyim, the chairman of the APC Committee for the governorship and House of Assembly primaries, declared the outcome on Friday night at the party secretariat in Jos.
According to Mnyim, Mutfwang won the APC governorship after receiving the majority of the votes cast by party members throughout the state.
The results show that Mutfwang received 233,335 votes to defeat Chief Yilcini Jan Bida, a retired military officer, who received 3,070 votes.
The returning officer concluded, "Therefore, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang is hereby declared elected and returned as the governorship candidate of Plateau State, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and having scored the highest number of votes."
Mutfwang officially left the Peoples Democratic Party on December 29, 2025, and on January 2, 2026, he joined the APC.
In response to the results, Plateau APC Chairman Rufus Bature praised the electoral commission for carrying out what he called a free, fair, and transparent process and stated that the party will now concentrate on rallying support prior to the start of campaigns.
After the results of the party's primary election, which was conducted in each of the 16 local government areas of Kwara State, the APC declared Danladi-Salihu as its candidate for governor.
Following the procedure, Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defense and chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, declared the outcome in Ilorin.
According to Obanikoro, 15 candidates took part in the competition, and Danladi-Salihu won with 94,990 votes.
Ambassador Yahaya Seriki received 41,700 votes, while former APC state chairman Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa received 22,118, according to the committee's statistics.
Prince Sunday Fagbemi, the chairman of the Kwara APC, insisted that the state chapter remained united ahead of the 2027 elections and termed the primary as pleasant and rancour-free in his post-exercise remarks.
