Grammy-winning Canadian singer Celine Dion returned to the stage on Friday, performing at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The 56-year-old star delivered a moving rendition of Édith Piaf’s classic “Hymne à l’amour” from the base of the Eiffel Tower, marking her first public performance in four years. Celine Dion, who has been battling stiff-person syndrome and has not performed publicly since 2020, expressed her joy and honor at being part of the prestigious event. “I’m honored to have performed tonight for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities!” Dion said in a statement.
She continued to celebrate the athletes, praising their dedication and hard work.


“Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance. All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you!” she added.

This performance marks Dion’s second appearance at the Olympic Games; her first was at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

According to TMZ, Dion was compensated for her performance at the Paris 2024 Games.

Despite her ongoing health challenges, Dion had previously vowed not to let her condition stop her from performing.

In an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show, she had declared her determination to return to the stage, even if it meant performing under difficult circumstances.
