Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has stated that the competition for the vice presidential post before the 2027 election may divert President Bola Tinubu's attention from running the government. "Distracting the president could be counter-productive for the economy, which is just getting out of the woods," former legislator Oyintiloye said in a statement he signed yesterday, urging politicians to slow down their 2027 election-related politicking.
There are already some candidates vying for the position of vice president. The president has a lot of work ahead of him to maintain a strong economy, combat the threat of insurgency, and repair vital infrastructure that is no longer being funded.
"Progress can be slowed down by the noise-making of these political opportunists who are determined to create distractions. Even though the 2027 election is still more than a year and a half away, the president is being prevented from working by people vying for jobs. That needs to end immediately, Oyintiloye stated.
He claims that when Tinubu took office in 2023, he inherited a dysfunctional economy marked by unsustainable fuel subsidy spending, a soaring debt profile, and a volatile currency.
It is ridiculous and inappropriate to divert his attention from the 2027 and even 2031 elections by arguing over who should get what. “What the president needs right now is our prayers, solidarity, and collective support, and not needless clamor for a power struggle ahead of 2027,” Oyintiloye said.
