A Pharmacist, Dr Chukwuma Agubata, revealed that taking Irvingia Fat from nuts of Irvingia Gabonensis Var Excelsa, known as “Ogbono’’ soup has assisted in improving the efficacy of anti-malarial drugs.

Agubata, a researcher and lecturer in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, made the assertion while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

He said eating Ogbono soup while administering Artemether, an Anti-Malaria drug would improve the efficacy of the drug.

The researcher added that Ogbono would assist the drug to pass through all the barriers to get to its destination in the body and start working properly.

Swiss scientists have created an experimental skin implant that darkens like a mole when it detects subtle changes in the body that may be an early warning sign of cancer, a study revealed.

The implant, or “biomedical tattoo,” as researchers named it, has been tested in lab animals, lasts about a year and recognizes the four most common types of cancer: prostate, lung, colon and breast cancer.

Speaking at the Malaria Forum conference in London, the billionaire Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist said that while gene editing raises “legitimate questions”, that should not jeopardize exploration of tools such as CRISPR gene editing and so-called “gene drive” technologies.

“I’m very energized about the potential of gene drive. (It’s) the kind of breakthrough we need to support,” Gates said.

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) says it has commenced nationwide indefinite strike in earnest.

Mr Obisesan Oluwatuyi, General Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

Oluwatuyi said that they would not call up the strike until government meets their demands.
