The Lagos State Government has warned religious leaders in the state against a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, urging them to intensify safety protocols to avert the spread of the virus. The state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Anofiu Elegushi, spoke on Monday in Lagos at the 2020 International Day for Tolerance.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, has disclosed the federal government plan to discourage brain drain especially that of physicians from the country. The Minister stated this yesterday in Abuja while inspecting a new cancer center newly launched at the National Hospital in Abuja. Ehanire said, “I have heard the challenge of doctors leaving the country. We have plans to provide better funding for our hospitals in Nigeria and make such migration unattractive,” He applauded the health workers for their commitment especially in handling the COVID-19 cases in the country, pledging that the federal government is making an effort that all our physicians within the country did not leave the country to another land because of welfare and working condition.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has disclosed that the death toll of the pandemic on the continent has surpassed 35,000; meanwhile, Nigeria has shutdown two (2) of its COVID-19 isolation centre due to lack of patients. According to Africa CDC, of 1,437,339 infections about 1,185,054 patients have recovered which is very positive. South Africa with 668,529 cases is the 10th most-affected nation globally while the first (1st) in Africa. Nigeria on the other hand is the fourth most impacted country in the continent after South Africa, Egypt and Ethiopia.
Nigeria has on Wednesday recorded a total of 111 new infections of the coronavirus, bringing the cases of infections in the country to 57,724, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said.

The health agency made this known through its official twitter handle, saying that about 132 new infections were recorded. It stated that one new death was recorded that made the death toll to hit 1,083.
