The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported that 176 people have died from Lassa fever across 21 states in 2025. In its Week 43 Situation Report, the recorded 955 confirmed cases out of 8,367 suspected infections in 102 local government areas. Although total infections have slightly declined compared to 2024, the case fatality rate has risen to 18.4 percent from 16.6 percent last year.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako, revealed during a press briefing that President Bola Tinubu has ordered members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), who embarked on an indefinite strike on 1st November 2025, to return to work immediately. Salako noted in Abuja that Tinubu has promised to resolve the dispute and restore normal operations in public hospitals.
Moses Arokoya, president of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), has revealed that about 65 percent of human diseases in Nigeria are zoonotic, originating from animals. Speaking on Monday during the 61st Annual National Congress and General Meeting of the NVMA held in Jalingo, Arokoya noted that zoonotic infections are on the rise across the country, contributing to an estimated 2.7 million deaths globally each year.

According to reports, the doctors were allegedly fired in October 2024, May 2025, and August 2025 by FTHL administration, led by former Chief Medical Director Dr. Olatunde Alabi, for their engagement in union activities against hospital management.
