The Akwa Ibom state governor, Umo Eno, has been praised by the Nigerian Medical Association's Akwa Ibom State chapter for approving the installation of an MRI machine and dialysis units at the Ikot Akpankuk General Hospital in Ukanafun Local Government. The organization claims that this intervention will make advanced diagnostic services and kidney care more accessible to the community. Last week, Eno authorized the building of an MRI scanner and dialysis unit at the hospital and showcased the first operational general hospital since the council's founding in 1976.
In a statement released in Uyo on Monday, NMA chairman Aniekan Peter said that the improvement will enhance resident outcomes and boost secondary healthcare.
"The Nigerian Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State Branch, expresses sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, for commissioning the General Hospital at Ikot Akpankuk in Ukanafun and for approving the installation of an MRI machine and dialysis units in the facility," the statement says.
The residents of Ukanafun, who had long lacked a functioning general hospital and had to travel great distances for routine and emergency care, are greatly relieved by this intervention. The community will now have local access to renal care and cutting-edge diagnostic services thanks to these improvements.
It is a significant step in enhancing secondary healthcare and improving resident outcomes.

He also thanked Ekem John, the state commissioner for health, for his dedication to advancing the governor's goal, noting that his work has contributed to the expansion and stability of healthcare services throughout the state.
