A Nigerian obstetrician and gynaecologist, Professor Leke Badmos, who is based in Toronto, Canada has called on the federal government to let Nigerians who are ambitious and who possesses the technical requisite to migrate abroad and widen their horizon. Prof. Badmos instead charged the federal government to concentrate on improving on the medical sector through creating an enabling environment where medical professionals and potential investors in the sector would have confidence.
The medical expert made this call in Abeokuta, Ogun state while speaking with newsmen during inauguration of a specialist hospital.
He noted that there is no infrastructural or human medical facility present abroad that cannot be replicated in Nigeria if only there is a political will.
In his statement, “A lot of things being done in those places were done by the people.
“Government just made rules, laws and an enabling environment. This is what I am encouraging the government to do (in Nigeria). People will do so many things including all of you.
Badmos added, “There’s no big deal about those places. People do things. You look around, there are laws, you don’t see police or military everywhere. There are hospitals, people doing their work and people should be well paid and there should be enabling facilities. I trust this government and I am sure they will do their best”.
While commenting on the ‘Japa syndrome’ as it is beginning to take a headlines in Nigeria to an extent the National Assembly were mulling criminalising such migration, Badmos call on those in authority to instead concentrate their energy in fixing Nigeria first and see how everything will fall in place.
