The first lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari has condemned the scary figure of maternal and child mortality in the country.
Mrs Buhari, who was represented by former Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs Pauline Tallen made the disheartening expression on Tuesday, at a 3-day advocacy training workshop on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent, Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in Minna.
The wife of the President said, "Except every one commits to taking responsibility and strategic action to address these issues in our immediate regions, they may remain unchanged and even grow worse."
"The workshop could not have come at a better time and requires the support and commitment of all towards championing RMNCAH+N advocacy in states." she added.
Speaking, Wife of the Niger State governor, Dr Amina Bello, after admitting that the wives of state governors share common passion to improve overall health status of the people, urged the spouses to take it as a moral obligation to support governments in reducing the high rate of maternal and child deaths caused by preventable diseases.
She also indicated that she has been involved in advocacy to improve the reproductive health rights and awareness campaign to improve maternal and child health, and that her foundation will not relent towards providing opportunity for women and girls to realize their full potentials in an environment that is safe for pregnancy and childbirth.
