The Nigerian Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have vowed to partner with health practitioners to arrest cases of female genital mutilations especially in Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states. The Commandant of NSCDC, Oyo state Command, John Adewole, his Osun state counterpart, Akinwande Aboluwoye and the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of Criminal Investigation, Ekiti State jointly stated this on Wednesday in Oshogbo, the Osun state capital.
The trio stated this after a two-day meeting on enforcement of the laws against female general mutilation in the South West organised by the Centre for Women’s Health and Information in collaboration with the Civil Resource Development and Documentation Centre.
They commended the organizers of the programme for the sensitization exercise and assured that they will partner with relevant stakeholders in their various states to stamp out the ugly practice.
They said the operation would be easy since government has already legislated against the practice.
