The L-PRES National Coordination Office in Abuja has delivered vaccines to the Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support project for widespread immunisation against Nigeria's key transboundary animal diseases. The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support project's immunisation programme seeks to improve food safety, security, livestock productivity, and animal health in Nigeria. Abdulkabir Otaru, the project coordinator, received the vaccines on Thursday in Lokoja and gave them to Olufemi Bolarin, the commissioner for livestock development.
Mr. Bolarin praised the federal government's action, stating that the immunisations would help Kogi's small ruminant producers, livestock farmers, pastoralists, and poultry.
Earlier, Mr. Otaru referred to the vaccination as a "critical intervention" that would increase Kogi's livestock productivity. 200,000 doses of the CBPP vaccine, 30,000 doses of the Newcastle disease vaccine, and 3,000 doses of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine are among the immunisations, he said.
According to him, animals at 64 value chain clusters spread across 21 LGAs would receive the vaccinations. Mr. Otaru mentioned that the vaccinations would be kept at the Ministry of Livestock Development in Kogi in a cold chain facility set up by the Kogi L-PRES project.
