The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has on Wednesday said an additional 610 new COVID-19 infection has been recorded, the second-highest daily infection in nearly six months. This brings Nigeria’s total confirmed infections to 179,118 with Lagos, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States leading the surge in infection rates.
According to NCDC, the 610 cases were recorded across 12 states and the FCT.
The states are Lagos with the highest rate of 281 infections, followed by Rivers with 152 infections.
Others include Ogun and Oyo with 21, Ekiti with 14, FCT with 13, Delta with 7, Ondo with 4, and Bayelsa, Kano, and Plateau with 2 cases each.
Also, 2 deaths were recorded in Sokoto and Kaduna, though no new infection cases from the states.
The total fatality rate recorded in the country is 2,194 while, the recovery rate is at 166,131.
NCDC has stressed the need for Nigerians to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines of handwashing, social distancing, and wearing of face masks among others.
