President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan for winning the year 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award. The congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, this morning, as the president applauded Jonathan for his dependable advocacy for peace and democracy, describing the action as a patriotic effort that has earned him global recognition.


The report partly reads, “The President states that Dr Jonathan’s winning the Sunhak Peace Award affirms his bold efforts in peacebuilding and promoting democracy in Africa and beyond.

“The President recalls the former President’s historic acceptance of the results of the 2015 presidential election and his peaceful handover of
power to an opposition party, which bolstered the nation’s democratic profile,” the statement added.

The Nigerian leader thanked the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for recognizing effort of individuals working tirelessly to improve the world.

Sunhak Peace Prize, similar to Nobel was launched in 2015, and their award prices in every two years to individuals and organizations who have distinguished themselves in contributing to the global peace and development.

Accordingly, the prize recognises efforts in three key areas: sustainable human development, conflict resolution, and environmental conservation.

Consequently, former Nigerian leader, Jonathan was selected as the recipient for the 2025 Founders’ Sunhak Peace Award, which will be presented by the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation in Seoul, South Korea.
