Famous Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has raised concerns over an alleged move to deregister the Accord Party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State. The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the allegation in a post shared on his X account on Thursday, sparking fresh political conversations ahead of the 2026 governorship poll in the state.
Davido questioned the rationale behind the alleged attempt to deregister the party and called for a level playing ground for all political actors participating in the election.
“Deregister Accord party for what? "Cowards, let’s go to the field,” the singer wrote in the viral post.
His latest comments came barely 48 hours after he publicly criticised Gboyega Oyetola, accusing the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former governor of Osun State of allegedly engaging in desperate political manoeuvres ahead of the election.
The political tension in Osun has continued to attract national attention following recent developments involving the state’s governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is also Davido’s uncle.
Governor Adeleke had in December 2025 announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party amid the party’s lingering leadership crisis and legal disputes at the national level.
Following his exit from the PDP, the governor defected to the Accord Party, a move widely interpreted as part of his strategy to seek re-election under a different political platform.
Political observers believe the recent controversy surrounding the Accord Party may further heighten tensions ahead of the Osun governorship election, as supporters and opposition camps continue to trade accusations over alleged political interference.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2026, with political activities already gathering momentum across the state.
