The Kwara State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized recent statements by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, describing them as attempts to distort ongoing legal proceedings. In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olawale Babatunde, the APC urged Saraki and the PDP to refrain from what it called media-driven narratives and allow the courts to establish the facts.
"The court deals with evidence and facts, not dramatic statements aimed at erasing history," the party said, adding that individuals confident of their innocence should have no reason to avoid trial.
The APC emphasized that the matter should not be politicised, stressed that "the proper place for explanations is the courtroom, not social media or press statements."
Responding to Saraki's denial of any connection to the convicted suspects, the party described the claim as questionable, noting that testimonies and evidence gathered during investigations would be scrutinised when court proceedings resume.
"The testimonies of key individuals, including those involved in the investigation, do not support the claims being made," the statement added.
The party further argued that the renewed public discourse highlights wider concerns about alleged political sponsorship of violent crimes, insisting that the judiciary must be allowed to operate independently.
“No amount of noise can stop the law from taking its course. If anyone has questions to answer, the court remains the rightful place,” it stated.
The APC also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for upholding due process, regardless of political affiliations.
“The state government deserves commendation for applying the law without fear or favour. No one is above the law,” the party said.
It further praised the administration’s performance across key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and rural development, noting that ongoing reforms and the prompt payment of salaries and pensions reflect a commitment to governance.
According to the party, attempts by the opposition to revisit the Offa robbery case are aimed at diverting attention from what it described as the state’s developmental progress.
