Peru ended their 36-year wait for a World Cup berth after overcoming New Zealand 2-0 in Wednesday’s inter-confederation play-off. The play-off tie between the fifth-placed CONMEBOL nation and the Oceania champions was evenly poised following Saturday’s goalless draw in Wellington.

Ivory Coast Coach, Marc Wimot has tendered his resignation to the country's Football Federation after failing to qualify the country for the 2018 FIFA World Cup billed to take place in Russia.  According to Marca, Wilmots departed after six months in charge. The Ivorians' 2-0 home loss to Morocco on Saturday ensued they finished runners-up in their qualifying group and missed out on the tournament in Russia.

Few days after Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Italian FA has sacked the national team coach Gian Piero Ventura. The decision came after an emergency meeting by officials of Italian FA (FIGC) on Wednesday. The FA is also calling for the resignation of President Carlo Tavecchio.

Arsenal have hailed the duo of Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette after they both scored twice for Nigeria and France respectively in Tuesday’s international friendlies.

The Super Eagles came from 2-0 down to beat Argentina 4-2 in Krasnodar, Russia, with Iwobi scoring Nigeria’s second and fourth goals.

The days of Gary Cahill in Chelsea are numbered as Club owner, Roman Abramovich is reportedly plotting his dethronement as captain.  According to Transfer Window Podcast guest, Ian McGarry, Abramovich wants David Luiz to replace John Terry as captain of the club. He explained that Luiz was brought back from Paris Saint Germain because he was seen as the long term replacement for John Terry who left the club last summer to join Aston Villa.
