Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua has failed in his bid to recapture the unified heavyweight titles after suffering a back-to-back defeat against Ukranian, Oleksandr Usyk. Hours after his defeat, another Nigerian, Kamaru Usman, lost the UFC welterweight championship title to Britain’s Leon Edwards.
The two Nigerian have dominated their individual categories both in boxing and the UFC, however, after losing his title to Usyk 11 months ago, Joshua aimed at reclaiming them back in a bout that took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday 20th of August, however, he lost the rematch after two judges scored the fight 115-113 and 116-112 to Usyk, while a third judge gave it 115-113 to the challenger.
Kamaru Usman who was literally 55 seconds away from retaining his Welterweight title, suffered his first UFC career loss at the Vivint Arena, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, on Sunday morning. Leon Edwards won the 1st round on the Verdict Scorecard then lost rounds 2, 3, & 4. With this victory, Edwards's undefeated streak has improved to 11.
After the fight, both Anthony Joshua and Kamaru Usman vowed to bounce back in the nearest future.
