Dozens of football fans have been injured after a glass barrier collapsed during celebrations following a match held at a stadium in Kuwait.

The incident occurred when Omani fans rushed to greet their team after their win in the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup final.

"The barrier went down due to pressure caused by waves of moving fans," state news agency Kuna reported.

Young Nigerian winger Xavier Amaechi has signed his first professional contract at Arsenal.

Amaechi’s signing was announced on Arsenal’s official website on Friday with a picture of him and Arsene Wenger while putting pen to paper.A statement on Arsenal’s website reads: “Talented winger Xavier Amaechi has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has been invited by the Liberia President-elect, George Opong Weah, to his inauguration later this month.

Wenger was Weah’s manager at French side, Monaco, between 1988 and 1992, but he is not sure he will able to attend due to his busy schedule at Arsenal.

“I have been invited by George to come to the day where he will be the President,” Wenger told the BBC.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad Ahmad has explained why the categories for the African based best player and best referee were scrapped for this year’s edition of the Aiteo CAF Awards billed to hold in Ghana.

Ahmad told journalists during a media conference at the International Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana on Wednesday that the body cancelled the award to avoid duplication.

Al Ahly and Nigeria’s Junior Ajayi was in the running for the award for African Player of the Year- based in Africa.
