The world football governing body, FIFA, has announced a ban on refillable water bottles in World Cup venues by fans, which means supporters would have to buy bottled water inside the stadium.
The FIFA’s official stadium code of conduct included a clause which read, “For the avoidance of doubt, empty, transparent, reusable plastic bottles, up to (1 litre in) capacity, may be brought into the stadium."
However, according to an updated stadium code of conduct, it stated, “For the avoidance of doubt, reusable water bottles may not be brought into the stadium.”
According to the statement by FIFA, ““FIFA is committed to protecting the health and safety of all players, referees, fans, volunteers, and staff.
“FIFA made the decision to prohibit bottles to prevent risk and injury to players and attendees.
“Outside bottles are already prohibited at several of these venues for safety considerations, and FIFA is applying this consideration across its tournament stadiums.”
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to be held from 11 June 2026 to 19 July 2026, to be hosted by Canada, the United States of America and Mexico.
