Defending champions, Falconets who bagged gold at the 12th African Games in Rabat, Morocco, have advanced to the finals of the 13th African Games in Ghana after triumphing The Crested Cranes of Ugandan 2-0 on Monday.
Nigeria’s Under-20 female football team has had a good run en route to the finals; having defeated Morocco 2-0 in their opening game, the Falconets humiliated Senegal 4-0 in their second group B match to set up a semi-final encounter with Ugandan.
Fans witnessed a thrilling encounter at the Cape Coast Stadium where both of Nigeria's goals came in the second half after playing goalless for 45mins. Substitute, Adaobi Okoh, found the back of the net in the 74th minute with her first touch in the game; another substitute, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, secured the Falconet path to the final with an 89th-minute strike.
The Falconets will now face host, Ghana, in the final, while Uganda and Senegal will battle for a bronze medal.
