The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), inviting its 54 member associations to submit applications. CAF announced the development on its official website, signalling the start of the selection process for future hosts of Africa's premier football tournament.
According to the continental football governing body, all its member associations are eligible to bid to stage the AFCON finals in 2028, 2032 and 2036.
Meanwhile, the 2027 edition of the competition has already been awarded to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, with the tournament scheduled to take place from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
CAF also disclosed that the bidding framework was prepared with the assistance of its independent expert adviser, PwC, alongside its technical, financial and external legal advisers.
"The bidding framework has been developed with the support of its independent expert adviser, PwC, and its technical, financial and external legal advisers," CAF stated.
Describing the significance of the competition, CAF noted that "the AFCON is the biggest sporting event in Africa and is also amongst the biggest sporting events in the world."
