Pep Guardiola insisted revenge was not his motivation as he prepares Manchester City for their Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid. He says his players must be careful not to fall into the trap of revenge for last year's UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid. City were beaten by the Spanish giants in their last encounter and the opportunity to make amends has presented itself.
In his words: "It was tough but we made an exceptional first game in Manchester and played a really good game here.
"In general it was a good performance but it was not enough. You congratulate them and accept it and now one year later we are here.
The City boss said, "We are not here for revenge. It is another opportunity. One day we will get it. We will get to the final and win it.
"It didn't happen last season as we played Real Madrid and in this competition, they know exactly what they have to do."
We have to put in a great performance in both matches, otherwise,
Pep said, “When I arrived at Manchester City I thought I would win the Champions League in the first year, then in the next one… and the one after that.
“And the last one, the same thing. That’s my mentality. And here we are, we are here to try again,” he concluded.
