A Mombasa Air Safari aircraft has reportedly crashed in a hilly, forested area about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Diani Airstrip in Kenya’s Coastal Kwale region on Tuesday morning. The plane, which was carrying foreign tourists and heading to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, is feared to have left no survivors.
According to accounts from eyewitnesses, the ill-fated Cessna Caravan aircraft caught fire shortly after takeoff with a loud explosion, and upon reaching the scene, the responders discovered charred human remains.
Kwale County Commissioner, Stephen Orinde told The Associated Press that the passengers were “all foreign tourists” and efforts are being made to identify their nationalities.
