The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Thursday dismissed an appeal filed by Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo , seeking to set aside the decision of the Federal High Court, Lagos which empowered the EFCC to seize all the properties belonging to the ex-militant. Justice I. N. Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos, had on February 19, 2016 made an order seizing Tompolo’s properties for failure to appear to answer the charges against him.

The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Amb Thomas Quartey on Thursday said African countries were losing an average of 50 billion dollars annually through Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs). Quartey said this in Abuja at a preparatory meeting towards Nigeria’s role as the champion of the 2018 African Union theme, “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Walter Onnoghen, has confirmed the resignation of retired Justice Ayo Salami as Chairperson of the Corruption and Financial Crimes Cases Trial Monitoring Committee. It was averred that the former President of the Court of Appeal (PCA) Justice Ayo Salami (rtd) rejected the appointment based on principle and conscience.

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday awarded a N2 million judgment against the Nigeria Police Force in the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by one Mr. Okwuchukwu Obiechina said to be the brother-in-law of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans.

Justice Bello Kawu of FCT High Court, Kubwa, on Thursday ordered defence counsel, Mrs Hajaratu Ade, to pay N10,000 as cost to other counsel in a case of conspiracy and criminal breach of trust. Ade is representing Mr Gambo Bala and Cornelius Agenyi, two of the four defendants in an N8 million alleged fraud case, filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).

The billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (popularly known as Evans), has changed his guilty plea to two-count of amended charges of conspiracy and kidnapping to “not guilty.” Evans made the plea while appearing before, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court on Thursday, he pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit felony to wit kidnapping under Section 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws and also to kidnapping.
