A court in Finland has sentenced the self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Government in Exile, Simon Ekpa, to six years in prison for terrorism-related crimes.
According to a Finnish newspaper, Yle, the court stated that Ekpa was an active participant of a terrorist organization and also incited the public for terrorism purposes.
In its verdict, the court also stated that Ekpa had used his social media accounts to incite tensions in the South-East region of Nigeria between August 2021 and November 2024.
The court further noted that Ekpa supplied these terrorist groups with weapons and explosives via his contacts in the South-East region of Nigeria, adding that he committed these crimes in the Finnish city of Lahti; therefore, the Finnish court had jurisdiction in the case.
The court also convicted him of aggravated tax fraud.
