Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested a former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in Abuja.
According to reports, Malami was picked up in front of the Kuje Correctional Centre on Monday shortly after a visit to the facility in regard to his current money laundering trial.
A video circulating online showed Malami requesting for the DSS personnel to identify themselves with their official ID cards; he then entered the vehicle belonging to the DSS.
Security analysts suggest that this development was due to several petitions against the former AGF over alleged terrorism financing.
A security source said, ““No responsible government would fold its arms or turn a blind eye to weighty allegations of terrorism financing against any individual, no matter how highly placed. In this case, Malami.
“In the course of investigations, we have what is called inter-agency cooperation. It is not uncommon for one security agency to hand over a suspect to another sister agency. In Nigeria, the DSS is statutorily responsible for investigating terrorism-related matters. It is best to allow them to do their job.”
