Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-described Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, was detained by the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday in accordance with a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja after he neglected to show up for his arraignment on an eight-count charge that included allegations of conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation. Following the defendant's absence when the matter was called, Justice Mohammed Umar granted an oral application by the prosecution, led by Wisdom Madaki, and ordered Adeyemi's detention.
When the case, designated FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was called and Adeyemi did not show up, the court allowed the prosecution's oral application.
Genesis Francis, Adeyemi's attorney, opposed the application, telling the court that his client had written to President Bola Tinubu about the purported threats and was afraid for his life. The attorney claimed that Adeyemi planned to survive so he could defend himself in court.
In response, Justice Umar declared, "The court will help him be alive," and then he issued a bench warrant for Adeyemi's arrest. Afterward, the judge postponed the arraignment until September 30, 2026. In a brief statement to reporters, Aminu Koji, the Force Public Relations Officer's personal assistant, confirmed Adeyemi's detention. According to Koji, members of the Intelligence Response Team detained Adeyemi in Osun State.
On November 27, 2025, the police filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi and two other suspects, simply named Femi and Anu, who are reportedly at large, alleging conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation in connection with the operation of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, an organization the Presidency has consistently denied exists.
