Seven alleged gunmakers have been detained by the Yobe State Police Command after they discovered an illicit gun-manufacturing facility in Potiskum Local Government Area. According to the command, the suspects were taken into custody on Monday during a raid on a blacksmith shop in Tasha Adua, along Danchuwa Road in Potiskum.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday. The statement said, "The Yobe State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to combat crime and criminality across the state."
The statement claims that officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters and members of the Potiskum Area Command conducted the operation in response to information suggesting that firearms were allegedly being illegally manufactured in the region.
According to Abdulkarim, several exhibits were found at the workshop, and the suspects were taken into custody.
Two fake handguns, twenty-four muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four broken Dane guns, a file machine, and a cutlass were among the goods found.
According to Abdulkarim, "the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of some blacksmiths engaged in the illegal fabrication of firearms."
To determine potential buyers, collaborators, and the planned use of the weapons, he continued, the suspects were being held and investigated.
According to Abdulkarim, Usman Kanfani-Jibrin, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a more thorough inquiry to find further illegal firearms manufacturing facilities and evaluate the security risk these activities offer.
Additionally, he asked locals to be watchful and notify security authorities of any unusual activity.
