The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has declared a couple, Kazeem Omogoriola Owoalade (alias Abdul Qassim Adisa Balogun) and Rashidat Ayinke Owoalade (alias Bolarinwa Rashidat Ayinke), wanted over dealing with illegal substances. The agency revealed this development following the arrest of four members of the syndicate in Lagos where a Sports Utility Vehicle was recovered and two houses already traced to them sealed for forfeiture to the federal government. On Sunday, this was made known in a statement by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.
Babafemi said that two members of the syndicate: Imran Taofeek Olalekan and Ishola Isiaka Olalekan were arrested on April 3, 2024, following their bid to export 3.40kg cocaine on a Qatar Airlines flight going to Oman through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL Tank Farm located at Kayode Street, Marine Beach, in the Apapa area of Lagos was this Friday afternoon gutted ablaze by fire outbreak. According to an eyewitness account, Mr Tunde Are, the raging inferno started at about 11:00 am and was still raging while effort was underway to call fire service. He said people were running to the scene in hope that they might contain the fire before a rescue team arrived to the place. 

The Senate had yesterday during the plenary passed for third reading a bill seeking to establish the North West Development Commission (NWDC).This followed the presentation of a report by the Committee on Special Duties read by its Chairman, Kaka Shehu Garbai (APC Borno Central), during plenary, the bill which was initially sponsored by Senator Barau Jibrin. During the presentation of the report, Shehu said, “The intent and purpose of the bill is structured for the socio-development of the North West Geopolitical Zone,” and pleaded that the Senate approves it. 

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has alerted Kano State residents to the possibility of high-risk flooding in 14 out of the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. The NIMET Kano/Jigawa Territorial Coordinator, Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, stated this at a Disaster Risk Management Stakeholders Coordination Meeting on Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook in Kano.

Organised Labour says it has pulled out from the ongoing Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage negotiation that is ongoing in the country through the tripartite committee. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, at a joint news conference made this known yesterday in Abuja. The Organised labour insisted that the government‘s proposal of N48,000 as new minimum wage for workers was not just a “mockery but an insult to Nigerian’s dignity’.

The Executive Director, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre and Head, Transparency International in Nigeria Mr Auwal Musa (RAFSANJANI) has accused illegal money exchangers of funding terrorism. Musa said this at a Multi-stakeholder National Dialogue on Preventing Terrorism Financing and Violent Extremism on Wednesday in Abuja. He said terrorism constituted a global threat, and Nigeria, unfortunately, was one of the countries that faces a high level of terrorism.
