The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has just approved the disbursement of its first trench of student loan to successful applicants. NELFUND held its inaugural board meeting on yesterday, Wednesday marking a milestone in its mission to support students with financial aid as part of the renewed hope agenda. Chairman of the board, Mr Jim Ovia, approved the immediate disbursement of student loans to successful applicants after careful consideration of qualified students.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has resume protest calling on Federal Government to fulfil its promise to remove its members from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS. Chairman of ASUU, Federal University, Lokoja, FUL chapter, Dr Joshua Silas, made the call today during a protest organised by members of the union at FUL campus in Felele, Lokoja.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has issued a three weeks ultimatum to Federal Government to resolved outstanding demands to avert shutdown. This was revealed by the Jigawa State Branch Chairperson, Salim Ahmed, at the emergency press conference held at Federal University Dutse (FUD), Dutse. The forum observed that the present administration deliberately ignored the leadership of the Union since its inception on 29th May, 2023.

The Federal Government (FG) is considering relocating Ikoyi correctional centre, Lagos and some other correctional centres from urban areas to other areas in the country which was made known on Thursday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo during the Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today. He said, “Under this administration, we’ve not had any jail attack, what we have had was force majeure which was Suleja because that particular correctional centre was built in 1914. It’s about 110 years old.

The Senate has yesterday approved a bill granting a 300 percent salary increase for federal and state judicial officers. The decision followed the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, chaired by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC-Borno North), when he presented its report to the lawmakers. This approval was in response to an executive bill submitted by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at enhancing salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits for judicial officers and workers. 

The Federal Government through the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency ( NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, unveiled the standardized version of the reintroduced national anthem on Wednesday in Abuja. Onilu urged Nigerians to pay close attention to the words in lines three and five of the national anthem that was reintroduced. He explained that the goal of the exercise was to guarantee that the lyrics remain consistent. He said: “Today’s event is to present the official version which will clear all doubts about the correct lyrics as contained in the Act signed by the President. “We call the attention of Nigerians to line three of the first stanza, which reads: Though tribes and tongues may differ. Note that the words “tribes” and “tongues” are in plural. We want you to also note that line five of the first stanza reads: Nigerians all, are proud to serve”. The word ”are”, not ”and” is correct.”
