The federal government through the Federal Ministry of Education has begun implementation of the recommendations of the investigative panel that was set up on January 9, 2024, to investigate counterfeit universities milling fake degrees to Nigerians. The membership which was made of 12-member investigative panel, chaired by the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Committee of Vice Chancellors, Prof. Jibrila Amin, had proposed some strict recommendations in its report and has since been submitted to the Federal Ministry of Education.

Following the indiscriminate cropping of illegal colleges of education in the state, the Bauchi State Government has closed down 39 of such schools due to lack of following due process in its registration. This was made known today by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Mrs Lydia Tsammani, who convened a press conference in Bauchi town, the capital of Bauchi state.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has donated N50bn from the proceeds of crime to support the Student Loan Scheme which is being coordinated by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). This was made known by the Commission on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr and his management team to the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of over 215,267 candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over alleged examination malpractice. This was disclosed in a statement issued during a briefing on Monday Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria Office, adding that this is a 4.37 percent decrease from the 16.29 percent recorded during the 2023 WASSCE for school candidates.

The management of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) is set to release the results of the May/June 2024 West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today, 12th August 2024.
A total of 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 secondary schools nationwide reportedly sat for the examination The candidates comprised 902,328 males (49.73%) and 912,016 females (50.27%), who were examined in 76 subjects, comprising 197 papers. Some 30,000 secondary school teachers supervised the examination.

The Federal Government (FG) has reduced the allowances of foreign scholars who are studying under the Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Scholarship by 12.7 per cent due to economic hardship. The BEA scholarship is an education exchange program between Nigeria and the partnering countries supervised by the Federal Scholarship Board under the Federal Ministry of Education.
