The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has informed that social media have become a priority and issue of national security. Ribadu stated this in Abuja at a meeting with spokespersons of organisations under the umbrella of Strategic Communication Interagency Policy Committee. According to the NSA, negative use of social media constituted both local and global threats.
Gunmen on Sunday night reportedly attacked mourners at Ugwiijoro village, Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing several persons injuring others. Although the police are yet to make any statement concerning this incident, villagers identified five bodies as victims of the dasdardly act. Some of those killed were identified as Okeh Simon Ugwu Oruku, Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.
Senator Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, on his recent inspection of the first phase, section one of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and its realignment in Lagos revealed that the Federal Government has initiated the design of the Badagry-Sokoto Coastal Highway project; Which once completed will connect the North-West to the South-West, and in future link with the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The latter highway will connect the South-West to the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria.
Tragedy struck in Rivers State on Friday night after a fire from a fuel-laden tanker consumed four persons and destroyed about 100 vehicles at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in Rivers State. It was learnt that the tanker collided with another vehicle, exploded, and burst into flames that spread to other tankers and many other vehicles trapped in the gridlock. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described the situation as very unfortunate. He expressed sadness at the gory sights that he saw when he visited the scene of the incident, accompanied by the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the State Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Uchechukwu Nwafor, on Saturday morning.

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the escape of inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, Niger state. Last night Wednesday, a heavy downpour destroyed the fence of the Suleja correctional centre aiding the escape of inmates during a heavy rainfall. Confirming the incident through a statement by the spokesman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command of NCoS, Adamu Duza, he said a total of 118 inmates escaped so far by their record.
