The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has introduced a compulsory ethics and criminal record screening to ensure that all teachers in both public and private schools undergo a comprehensive background check before being employed.
British International Kenechukwu Oluwanifemi Uba, a Nigerian student, won the title of "Top in World" in the November 2024 Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (Speaking Endorsement) exam. Uba, a student at Caleb School in Magodo, Lagos, was recognized by Cambridge University Press & Assessment for her excellence and was given the Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award.
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND has released about ₦100 billion to some selected tertiary institutions across the country to expand training of medical scientists and address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country. Chairman of the TETFUND Governing Board, Aminu Masari, disclosed this in Katsina on Saturday, saying it is part of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to reverse the brain drain in the health sector that has been affecting the country in the form of ‘japa syndrome’.
Prof. Mathew Adamu has been appointed as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja (formerly Yakubu Gowon University) by the federal government. Adamu succeeds Prof. Patricia Manko Lar, who was appointed in February 2025 for a six-month term in an interim capacity, according to a statement released by Mrs. Roseline Adakayi, the interim Registrar and Secretary to Council.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reported a significant decline in candidate performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, compared to the previous year. Out of 1,969,313 candidates from 23,554 schools who took the exam, only 754,545, representing 38.32%, achieved a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This reflects a sharp 33.8% drop from the 72.12% recorded in 2024.
