The House of Representatives has decided to look into the standard and quality of finished and continuing projects carried out by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in tertiary institutions across the country to ensure value for money. Following a motion sponsored by Aderemi Oseni (APC, Oyo), the House requested that the Federal Ministries of Education and Finance, the National Universities Commission, TETFund, and development partners devise plans to refurbish first-generation universities, aiming to restore the universities' glory and quality.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government four weeks to complete all ongoing negotiations in the tertiary education sector. Mr. Joe Ajaero, NLC President, issued the ultimatum at an emergency news conference in Abuja on Monday, following a lengthy meeting with unions at tertiary institutions. Ajaero explained that the decision stemmed from years of unfulfilled promises and chronic underfunding of Nigeria’s education sector, which has led to repeated strikes and instability in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to begin a two-week nationwide warning strike on Monday, October 13, 2025, to press home its longstanding demands from the Federal Government. This development was disclosed in a memo titled “Strike Bulletin One” circulated to all branches and obtained by reporters in Abuja. The planned action follows a two-week ultimatum earlier issued by the union, urging the government to address unresolved issues, including the signing and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has acknowledged that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) never issued him a degree certificate. This admission confirms the outcome of a detailed two-year investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, which found that Mr. Nnaji forged the academic credentials he submitted to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate during his ministerial screening.
