The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the reopening of all the Unity schools shut down amid the escalating security challenges in the country.

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has prohibited admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in both public and private secondary schools across the country.

On Friday, during a pre-convocation press briefing for the 49th convocation ceremony of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), scheduled for 10-13 December, the Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Adebayo Bamire, announced that 217 students will graduate with first-class honors.

The Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSCEC), Dr. Iyela Ajayi, during a press briefing held on Monday in Abuja, directed all state governments to comply with the newly approved minimum standards for Senior Secondary Schools within one year. Ajayi commended the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, for their unwavering support towards the commission, stating that the NSSEC has been concentrating on establishing systems meant for transforming the quality, structure, and accountability of senior secondary education across the country.

The Bauchi State Government has ordered the shutdown of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions due to growing security threats.
