The Federal Government has approved a major overhaul of admission entry requirements for all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, introducing a more flexible and inclusive system aimed at broadening access to higher education. The decision follows the adoption of new national guidelines for tertiary admissions, as announced in a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday issued a warning through the president, Joe Ajero, that it may convene an emergency congress with its affiliates if the Federal Government fails to accede to the demand of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by the end of the ongoing two-week warning strike action.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to begin a two-week nationwide warning strike on Monday, October 13, 2025, to press home its longstanding demands from the Federal Government. This development was disclosed in a memo titled “Strike Bulletin One” circulated to all branches and obtained by reporters in Abuja. The planned action follows a two-week ultimatum earlier issued by the union, urging the government to address unresolved issues, including the signing and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has acknowledged that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) never issued him a degree certificate. This admission confirms the outcome of a detailed two-year investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, which found that Mr. Nnaji forged the academic credentials he submitted to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate during his ministerial screening.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) said the application portal for the 2024/2025 academic session will officially close on Tuesday, according to the Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, during a press conference.

 The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has announced the commencement of the verification of certificates for all current staff and recruits across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) from October 6, 2025.
