The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the Federal Government to honour the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement, warning that failure to do so could trigger a nationwide strike. ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, issued the ultimatum during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, urging the government to address the deteriorating state of Nigerian universities and fulfill its long-standing commitments. Piwuna highlighted nine unresolved issues, including the stalled renegotiation process since 2017. He also pointed to withheld salaries from the 2022 strike and unpaid entitlements related to the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). He criticised the delayed disbursement of revitalisation funds and earned academic allowances, noting that the government's pledge to invest ₦150 billion in the university system and review irregular allowances by 2026 remains unfulfilled.

Tensions are escalating in Federal Universities as the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) reject the proposed sharing formula for the ₦50 billion Earned Allowances.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 affected candidates. This process began on Thursday morning, following a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede. He acknowledged that the recently concluded UTME encountered issues, impacting 206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 candidates in 92 centres within the Owerri zone, which covers the five states of the South-East.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched an investigation into the alleged technical glitches, following widespread complaints about poor performance in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The statement was made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday by the Board’s Head,Media & Publicity, Dr Fabian Benjamin. Benjamin said the board was also collaborating with Vice Chancellors and IT experts to determine the root cause and ensure that affected candidates received appropriate remedies if any errors were confirmed. He said the board was also expediting its annual system review, a comprehensive post-mortem of the examination process, typically conducted months after the exercise.

Africa’s richest conglomerate, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group and Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, ADUSTECH, Wudil, has pledged N15 billion for various capital projects in the university as his contribution. Mr Dangote announced the donation at the university during the 5th combined convocation ceremony held yesterday Saturday in Kano.

Nigerian public and private school teachers are set to break the Guinness World Record at the Teachers Conference in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos state, for the "Largest Gathering of Teachers in One Location", with more than 60,000 in attendance.
