Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, Prof. Muazu Abubakar, has slammed the allegations that members of the House of Representatives Committee on University Education demanded N480m to approve federal universities’ 2025 budgets. Prof. Abubakar revealed that there were misleading allegations in most media outlets last week claiming that “stubborn vice-chancellor” believed to be him was quoted to have ignited the said unfounded allegation against the lawmakers.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have suspended Law admission in eight Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session as punishment for academic violation. The directive followed the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in the affected institutions by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) after violating regulatory procedures.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Abuja to be named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa confirmed this in a letter addressed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on 9th January 2025. Alausa said establishing the institution is part of the Ministry’s plan to ensure every state has a federal polytechnic nationwide.

Full-time Higher National Diploma graduates who had completed part-time National Diploma programs have protest the proposed exclusion from the National Youth Service Corps scheme. This protest comes as the registration for the second stream of Batch C mobilization began on Monday, January 6.
