The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), through the Federal Ministry of Education, has unveiled “Inspire Lives,” a digital platform created to widen access to quality education for children in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, on behalf of the minister, Tunji Alausa, stating that both public and private schools are eligible for the real-time online classes.
The statement said, “This transformative initiative targets the persistent shortage of qualified teachers and the need to guarantee uninterrupted learning across the country. By deploying technology to deliver live, interactive lessons directly to learners, Inspire Live democratizes access to quality education and ensures that no child is left behind regardless of location or circumstance.”
According to the ministry, the platform is currently broadcasting JSS 1, JSS 2, and SS 2 from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 2.30 p.m., and all lessons are delivered by certified master teachers on Cisco Webex to ensure quality instruction.
Subjects available for JSS students include basic science, mathematics, English language, ICT, agricultural science, basic technology, civic education, French, physical education, religious studies, history, and business studies.
For secondary school students, subjects available include biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, English language, economics, geography, agricultural science, technical drawing/catering craft, civic education, and automobile mechanics.
In its bid to ensure seamless operations, the Ministry has ordered all Commissioners of Education to nominate State Focal Officers to coordinate Inspire Lives activities, distribute details of the programs to public and private schools, and “ensure designated schools are equipped with basic ICT facilities and internet connectivity,” amongst other responsibilities.
The ministry further stated that principals of schools are solely responsible for registering their institution to participate, adding that registration “is strictly to be conducted by school principals via the Inspire support channels.”
