The Bauchi State Government has ordered the shutdown of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions due to growing security threats.
According to the government, the decision was reached after thorough consultations and is aimed at protecting students, teachers, and school communities amid rising insecurity in the state.
The announcement was made late Sunday in a statement issued by Jalaludeen Usman, the Public Relations Officer of the state’s Ministry of Education.
The statement noted that the directive applies immediately to all public, private, and federal schools operating within Bauchi State.
“The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause. However, the protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility.
“Every student in Bauchi state deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.
“We therefore call on parents, guardians, school proprietors, and all concerned stakeholders not to panic, but to remain calm and cooperative.
“The government is working closely with security agencies to address the concerns swiftly and comprehensively, ensuring that normal academic activities resume as soon as it is safe to do so,” he said.
Over the weekend, the Federal Government directed the suspension of academic activities in several schools due to increasing insecurity and frequent abductions of students.
In addition to the Federal Government’s closure of 41 unity schools, the state governments of Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and Katsina also ordered the shutdown of schools in their states.
