The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), has planned its 2024 Edition annual policy summit to hold on July 18, as well as begins admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions. The summit affirms the commencement of the year’s admission exercise, setting the grand norms, and any institution that violates these collective norms will face sanctions. “This year’s exercise will also feature the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award, NATAP-M Awards, where the overall winner will receive N500 million, and other consolation winners will share N250 million collectively.”

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Kebbi State have joined the nationwide strike over salary arrears owed to members. This was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that both unions from the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, (FUBK), were protesting the non-payment of their salary arrears by the Federal Government, thereby shutting down the university on Tuesday.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have directed their members to mobilize for a nationwide protest. This follows the recent breakdown of dialogue between the Ministers of Education and Labour, and the Joint Action Committee of the two bodies. In a circular directed to all branch chairmen of the two unions, the protest will commence on 9th July 2024, across the state chapters of the federation, and a national protest in Abuja on 18th July.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has uncovered about 3,000 Nigerian students who falsified as graduates. JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, announced this in a meeting with the delegation of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities in Nigeria, COPSUN, in Abuja. Oloyede also condemned the illegal admissions practice in some universities across the country. “Some graduates had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases.

Individuals seeking to get admitted to the Nigerian Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, and other open distance learning centres across the country are now mandated to register through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, JAMB The candidates are also expected to register with their unique National Identification Number, NIN, the new policy directs.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed a partnership with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on the provision of a customized Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) for the registration of candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination going forward. The Board in its Weekly Bulletin stated that the use of the customized SIM which will be introduced in 2025 is aimed at addressing the perennial challenges of theft or missing SIM. The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this during a visit of a delegation of the West Africa Civil Societies Forum (WACSOF) to his office. According to the Registrar, the customized SIMs would only be used for UTME registration and would be accessible to only parents with an expiry date of five years.
