Following spate of mixed reactions over the planned creation of "Ruga Settlements" across the country, on 3oth June 2019 Special Assistant (SA) to the president, Garba Shehu in a statement disclosed that the move was conceived out of the need to address growing clashes between farmers and herders in the country.

Perturbed by recurring communal clashes across the country, President Muhammadu Buhari says he has commenced consultation with stakeholders with the aim of establishing a committee to address the issue.

Worried by the growing cases of banditry in Northwest Nigeria especially in Zamfara State, the Force Commander, Operation Hadarin Daji, Maj. Gen. Jide Ogunlade on Tuesday, 24th June 2019 issued a 24-hour ultimatum to bandits in Zamfara State to surrender. The bandits were asked to either surrender or face “unprecedented fire-fight”, according to Ogunlade.
