The National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd) has called on the stakeholders in the security business to ensure the immediate implementation of the 2019 National Security Strategy, NSS to contain the emerging security challenges in the country.
Monguno made this call today Monday in Abuja while addressing stakeholders at a workshop organised for the sensitization of the NSS by the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The NSA who was represented by, Mr. Aminu Lawal, the Director of Policy and Strategy, ONSA, during the sensitization reiterated that the document which was recently launched by President Buhari will give the participant opportunity to interface with the NSS committee and have a better understanding of the documents and the need for MDAs to key in.
According to Lawal, producing the NSS document may mean nothing if its content is not fully implemented.
He added, critical to the implementation is a holistic understanding of the process and formulation of the document in order to guard against detail specification of the MDAs policies, saying, the sensitization is the first step of implementation of the NSS.
The NSA revealed that his office is committed to collaborating with various offices of the stakeholders making sure that the document is clearly understood and implemented.
He, therefore, urged the participants to engage the committee members on areas of interest this will provide a springboard that will give all the stakeholders understanding to operate on the page and attain the national interest through the strategy.
The NSA further disclosed that the NSS document was necessitated by the emerging security threat wave that hit our country during the year 2014 and the need to review was pushed by the fact that most of the security threats still live with us today.
He further explained that there was a need to continuously assess the current and future threat environment and develop appropriate resilience and capacity to mitigate them.
He revealed that forming formidable allies with our institution has become paramount at national, regional, continental and global levels and was an important aspect of the strategy.
He, therefore, urged the participants to study the document thoroughly to enable them proffer solutions to both internal and external threats.
