President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) that justice will be served with regard to the gruesome killing of a pregnant Lagos-based lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem. Mr. President on Tuesday directed the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the policemen involved in the killing of a Lagos-based lawyer, are brought to justice. Buhari said “the strongest possible action” must be taken against the remanded policemen who reportedly shot and killed Omobolanle Raheem. “I assure you that justice will be done in this case,” the President said in a statement signed by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, title “President condemns killing of Omobolanle Raheem, says justice must be done.”
President Buhari has described the killing as “heinous and senseless.”
The President said this incident was a stark reminder of the recurring menace of the mishandling of weapons and a wakeup call to law enforcement agencies, including the Police, to ensure the full implementation of reforms instituted by the regime on the subject of weapons handling as well as the protection of the rights of citizens.
The incident occurred near the Ajah Bridge on Christmas Day as the deceased returned from church.
Bolanle was reportedly shot while she sat in the car; the husband was beside her.
Lagos Police Command revealed the identity of the officer as Drambi Vandi, who is attached to the Ajah Police Station.
