A yet-to-be-identified police officer attached to Lagos police command yesterday shot dead a female lawyer, Bolanle Rahim unprovoked. The incident happened yesterday, Sunday when the deceased was returning with members of her family from the church after attending Christmas service. Vigil360 learned that as the diseased while returning from church run into an Ajiwe police check in the Ajah area of Lagos state where they were asked to pull over. In an unprovoked manner, one police officer among the troop opened fire on the car before it pull over hitting the lawyer, and upon realizing that, the police officer fled the scene.
The deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos state police command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin (ASP) said that the police ASP who fired the shot and two others at the checkpoint have been arrested by the police.
In his statement through his verified Twitter account @BenHundeyin said, “Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.”
Consequently, the incident has generated negative reactions from across Nigeria especially Lagos state with many calling on the police authority to immediately take action against the officer involved.
In a similar manner, on December 6th, another trigger-happy police officer attached to the same police station shot dead one Gafaru Braimoh, a resident of Happy Land Estate Ajah.
The incident has sparked a protest that has led to gridlock in the area with many calling for the police head.
