The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to observe Christmas and Boxing Day. It also declared Thursday, January 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark the New Year.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by Dr.Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr.Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, encouraging Nigerians to embrace and reflect on the values of love, peace, and humility, and sacrifice the birth of Jesus Christ represents.
Tunji-Ojo also urged everyone, regardless of their faith or ethnicity, to reflect during this yuletide period and pray for peace, enhanced security, and national development.
He stressed that Nigerians should stay law-abiding and vigilant during the celebrations, while extending wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
