President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that the resistance being displayed by the Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian University (ASUU) over a directive to join the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS) was an effort in futility.

Buhari who made this statement through the Executive Secretary of the University Commission, (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed who was speaking at the 14th convocation ceremony at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra state today.

Prof. Rasheed in his statement revealed, he would not finish the speech without talking about IPPIS, which has been resisted vehemently by the ASUU through a needless effort.

He stated, “I assure you all that IPPIS is not intended to trample upon university autonomy nor is it designed to subsume the university into the civil service.

“The primary intention of IPPIS is to enhance greater efficiency, transparency and better management of Universities finances.”

The Executive Secretary of the NUC explained that what the IPPIS is set to achieve shall form one of the vehicle that will drive the country to a more transparent system in our universities system.

The idea is premised to training individuals in both character and learning, therefore whatever is required to sanitize the system should be welcomed by the ASUU since it is being considered the moral compass of society.

Buhari assured his commitment to bringing Nigeria into working with patriotic elements to move the country to a greater height through negotiating for a brighter future for everyone especially the youth.
