Hon. Justice (Prof.) Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye (rtd), Visiting Professor at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has praised the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, for approving N20 million in compensation to Mrs. Chineze Ozoadibe and five others who were unlawfully arrested and detained over alleged illegal bunkering.
In a statement, Justice Omolaye-Ajileye commended the DSS boss for showing leadership, accountability, and respect for human rights, noting that the gesture reflects a clear commitment to transparency and the rule of law. “By awarding N20 million in compensation to these wrongly detained citizens, Mr. Ajayi has demonstrated a strong resolve to correct errors, rebuild public trust, and uphold justice,” he said.
He added that the move sets a worthy example for other security agencies, while reinforcing the DSS’s role in safeguarding the rights of Nigerians.
The retired judge further stressed that such bold and corrective actions by security institutions are essential for restoring public confidence and promoting a culture of accountability within the country’s law enforcement system.
