The Department of State Services Service, DSS, has released, Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC. Ajaero was let go by Monday midnight on administrative bail by the secret police.
Accordingly, Omoyele Sowore confirmed the release of Ajaero in a statement picked from his official X account on Monday midnight.
Sowore wrote; “BREAKING: The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released the @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail”.
Although, the NLC is yet to officially confirm Ajaero’s release as of the time of filing this report.
Recall that the NLC in a communiqué threatened to shut down the country’s economy if Ajaero was not released before midnight on Monday.
Ajaero was arrested on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, just before he board a flight that was bound to the United Kingdom for an official engagement.
His arrest had attracted negative reactions across the spectrum of labour with both NLC and Trade Union Congress calling for his immediate release.
In its threat message NLC ordered all its affiliate unions to be on a red alert for action if Ajaero was not released.
Consequently, the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE issued a notice on grid shutdown if Ajaero was not released before the NLC deadline.
CPPE Calls For Dialougue Between NLC And DSS
Director of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Dr Muda Yusuf has called on the Department of State Services to avoid heating the country’s economic hardship with the arrest of Ajaero as most Nigerians are not happy with the current economy.
Yusuf was reacting to the arrest of Ajaero that the situation could have an impact on Nigeria’s economy.
He said, “The way forward is to dialogue because any strike or protest will further worsen the state of Nigeria’s economy, we cannot afford that at this moment.
“Both the security agency and the NLC should have an engagement. The security agency should be open. If there is any charge against Joe Ajaero, there are channels to go about it instead of creating uncertainty and suspicion.
