Nigeria's ongoing security operations have received vital military supplies from the US government. The supplies were sent to Nigerian officials in Abuja, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on its verified X (previously Twitter) account. The delivery, as per the command, demonstrates the United States' ongoing commitment to strengthening its security alliance with Nigeria.
"In Abuja, U.S. forces provided vital military supplies to our Nigerian allies. "This delivery highlights our shared security partnership and supports Nigeria's ongoing operations," AFRICOM stated, tagging @USinNigeria, the US Mission in Nigeria.
The most recent assistance is part of Nigeria's ongoing efforts to enhance its capacity to address national security issues with the support of its international partners.
The Bola Tinubu-led administration had requested in November 2025 that the US send troops to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism in certain of the federation's states.
This appeal was issued by Bayo Onanuga, the president's spokeswoman, in response to the US designation of Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern."
On December 25, 2025, an airstrike was carried out in cooperation with Nigerian authorities in response to the request.
After the operation, which targeted terrorist locations in the North West of the country, the Federal Government confirmed continued security and intelligence collaboration with the United States.
To combat terrorism and violent extremism, Nigerian authorities continue to participate in "structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America," according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In accordance with international law, respect for Nigeria's sovereignty, and shared security commitments, the partnership entails intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of assistance.
The bombings were praised by US Congressman Riley Moore as "a decisive move to protect Christian communities and tackle the ongoing security crisis in the country."
